Moonlight

Have you ever had those nights that the slightest stirring or noise awakens you and the sleep disappeared from your eyes. Has your mind then wandered through a mine field of thoughts that appear to lay dormant within, awaiting for that moment to escape from its prison?

Such is the topic of todays poem, in a manner of speaking that is. A sleepless night and the thoughts that it brings to the open is what lays within this poem. For that brief moment one is carried through a windswept thought which carries you away for a spell.

As usual I welcome any comments that you feel is needed. I also ask for forgiveness for any typos that may appear here. I do strive to correct and update as I find such mistakes.

Moonlight

The moonlight filled the darkened room.
Where sleep took flight in the gloom.
I lay still watching shadows dance,
As the winds blew curtains by chance.

Laying silent and still in the moonlight,
My mind began to wander and fight.
Any desire to find sleep to end the day,
I found my thoughts were at your door.

To a day when laughter roamed free,
When we never pondered what will be.
Like the autumns rain all came to end,
Summers laughter could not last or bend.

Startled by branches of a tree trashing,
Against the window pain as if clashing.
With the calm light of a moon that crept,
Behind a cloud and moonlight wept.

Sleeping until the morning chorus rang,
Stumbling from my bed birds sang.
Not like my mind as it wandered clear,
Submitting to the loss that is never near.

  2. Fantastic poem! I actually felt as if I was in that room.

It’s interesting to note the layers you’ve given to this poem and the interesting phrases which you’ve used to make the poem come alive! “Summer’s laughter” now that’s going to stay with me.
