Silent Minds Wandering

It had been both my thought and intention to write a poem that took the basis of greek mythology and moulded it into something that then set to tell the story I wanted to place here.

I do not believe I succeeded as I had wanted, But still I shall post the poem here. The background of the poem should have Mother Nature amongst other gods of who had been in the midst of a lengthy debate on what to do with their charges. ie. Mankind and Earth etc. The silence of Mother Nature could cause rise to a hint of inner or deeper thought for the poem.

But they soon realise that Mankind had risen beyond that which they were prepared for. and thus it is not for some fabled beings like the mythological beings / gods etc. BUT for man to rise beyond their own smoke screens of lies an distrust to resolve the issues. The poem then ends with afinal stanza bringing more realistic statement that is in operation by some elements of man.

BUT having said this, I do not believe that the poem fully completed what I wanted for the poem. BUT still could have an interesting read for some.

Having said all of this, Please enjoy this poem.

Silent Minds wandering

From the mount of all things personified,
They gather to ponder how all abide.
Mother stood in their midst silence her stand,
To govern both far and near o’er the land.

Why disdain and hatred covered all man,
Destroy and alter for gain being their plan.
Mother’s silence thus bold confused the rest,
She watches o’er her hold giving her best.

Man’s destruction seen in all they can do,
When real becomes true bringing a new view.
Whilst they gather watching this mess take place,
Undecided what schemes will make their case.

Gods seek to clear the plot beyond their view,
Scattered minds and shattered thoughts nothing new.
Between indecision and lost movements,
Halt for lost chances waiting for events.

Thus clouds placed to confuse masses yet fail,
Man moved beyond that scope and fail to sail.
Divert the minds to steal the moment there,
Eyes focus else where to change future heir.

  1. Whatever you were aiming at, you’ve done pretty good—even leaving us with a cliff hanger at the end. Will Mother Nature stay silent? Why has mankind failed to sail? Why can’t those gods just leave us alone (which apparently, they do)? :D :D :D

    1. Thank you, At the time I worked on this poem, I was not happy with how it turned out. But I have read it a couple of times now and my view altered on it a little. It does leave the reader to arise with their own answer or Questions. But Does many who read such poetry ever completely result in such outcome.. I also believe that at times poetry results where it needs to finish at, which was the unhappy view of mine at that time. Sometimes mankind fail to sail beyond those goals because of mistrust , hatred of each other and greed a cycle that keeps all grounded where they are. thank you for such well thought and bright understanding of such writing.

      1. Jonathan When I began to write poetry I went for many years without revealing this secret of myself writing poetry and a simple Irish country man. But so many years later after my children having read some old ones I was encouraged enough to reveal this side of me to everyone. All of this happens a little over 20 years after returning to education to study english literature (under an excuse I tried to sell to others, But for me was to find where I stood in writing poetry) So when I read such comments that bless me beyond words I am awestruck that some like my poetry that much. I am not ever close to Yeats greatness in writing nor Kavanagh Nor the one who inspired much of my stuffs John Donne. Yet I am bless beyond belief. and hope thatother poets find their paths there also. Thank you friend. My journey in poetry is just beginning even at my age… thank you again.
