Bóithrín na nDaoine Eile

Introduction:

There are roads that wind through places we know, and roads that lead beyond what we see. This is one such road — a quiet boreen where the light changes slowly, where the past walks gentle beside us, and where the distance between what is here and what is beyond feels very small indeed. You may walk it and find your own meaning, your own memories, your own quiet truth. There is only one quiet way to travel it — only the way your heart takes you. Come walk a little while.

Muddy country path beside a wooden fence beneath a large tree
A narrow country lane winds through lush greenery beneath a spreading oak tree, with sheep-dotted hills beyond.

Bóithrín na nDaoine Eile

Grass bends low where the wind lingers late,

hedges hold berries of darkening wine,

light spills gold on the slate-grey gate —

and the bóithrín leaves the known world behind.

It winds past fields where the cattle graze slow,

past hawthorn boughs that have stood for years,

where bramble tangles and wild ferns grow,

and every turn remembers the years..

The air turns softer, the light leans thin —

not fading, exactly, but changed somehow;

shadows breathe deep where the stones press in,

and time slows down, as if saying wait now.

No chill of dread hurries the step or the breath —

we walk slow, steady, sure of the way;

what calls us here outlives every death —

it’s love that leads, and love that stays.

They walked this same road in the sunlight and rain,

their footprints still press where the grass is worn;

ní fada uainn — they have not gone far,

just stepped through the veil to the other dawn.

The hedge grows light and the evening pales,

but never dark — only honeyed and still;

we carry them close, and the veil grows thin,

anam le anam, heart to heart, always will.

Grass bends low where the two worlds meet,

the bóithrín knows, and the bóithrín keeps —

old footsteps remain, no one’s truly far;

we walk together, and love runs deep.

Kings Quote: Sometimes the distance between us is no more than a footstep, a memory, and a greeting given with love.
