The Mouse and The Rat

While out on a daily walk, a thought came to mind that would provide a challenge in creating a poem around a specific topic and story. BUT the story has never been written, (should any fellow writer find inspiration for that story feel free ) . Before going further into detail, I wanted to stress that the story was a strange inspiration and thought that came to mind for a poem. BUT a story that never has been yet would be quiet a first step for me to create a poem around.

Thus the poem may not fit my usual standard or style, but yet it was something I needed to follow through with. Therefore below I will strrive to outline the bones as it were of this story that has never been written.

The Mouse and The Rat Story Outline:

Ancient Stories have it said that The Rat and the Mouse shall never abide or feed together. Thus one may never or on rare occasions spy both together, because they abide by an ancient oath that they should always avoid the other ill at ease with the other. BUT hunger and hardship drove both the Mouse and the Rat to roam outside their zones in search for food.

BUT how irony played it’s part that both stood face to face over food they desired. It was beyond any doubt that there was enough food for both to dine easy. Yet with a silent pause the rat took its share and stood back and waited. For the Mouse to step forward and in turn took it’s share. Both faced each other in knowing what they just did was against their ancient oath. Then both left in silence and happy that they filled their appetite for easing their hunger.

Thus the above portion is what came to mind to create a poem about and around.. BUT did I succeed? One can read the result below.

Having said all of this please enjoy.

The Mouse and The Rat

See here, The Mouse hurried across the floor,
Primal instinct drives a search out the door.
Need for food the prime desire, hungers fire,
With chances dire, it carries past the mire.

O’er there, A Rat answers it’s need to eat,
Hunger’s fire burns deep a desire to meet.
It searches through the mire beyond its zone,
Driven purely for food past places known.

Soon in places where either e’er dare roam,
Both did meet, thus ne’er before, far from home.
For thus it was declared in days of old,
Rat or Mouse shall ne’er abide, this they hold.

Between them lay food, enough to hold both,
Hammered to hold ground, too hungry, what oath?
Thus the rat gathered its share and waited,
The Mouse gathered the rest, hated yet fated.

Both faced the other in silence awhile,
Then each to their home did roam in style.
A Lessons stand awaiting eager eyes,
No word to the wise who spies, those who rise.

Thank you for joining in my exercise and my play about with creating a poem from a story that never existed. BUT why do this? For a challenge is the short and sweet answer. Trying something new can and is, let’s just say Lots of fun, because many feelings come here that work along with a little perfectionist attitude. It is always good to try something new and for me something as basic as what appears above is new to me. You are welcome to comment on this post to either correct or whatever needs.

Thank you for reading this far into my post, I am always thankful for all who enjoy, read and comment on my poetry. Which for me is a journey that for the past few years have become one that I have enjoyed sharing with the world. Instead of what was always the case, of composing and hiding or deleting my work. Therefore thank you for joining me on this little journey.

MiSTAKES & TYPOS:

On occasions Mistakes and typos make their way onto the finished and published post. This has never been on purpose but at times they miss my eye when editing posts. BUT rest assured I correct and update the posts the moment I discover any such mistakes. Yet some do take a little longer than other because I have or may not find them. Thank you for understanding this.

PLEASE BE POLITE:

I welcome comments that folks decide to post. BUT I always ask that comments are in a Polite manner. I believe that a comment made in a polite manner goes much further and has a better effect than one made in less than Polite manner. However I do misspell and will correct. IF YOU WISH TO POINT OUT MISTAKES, Please take into consideration that If I make mistakes they are not on purpose and a polite notice of such mistakes go further. Thank You for understanding any mistakes.

In finishing please stay safe and take care, also when possible show a little loving care to those about you in society who may be in need of such loving care. A little positive output in life is a great start for folks in a world hit with rushing about in their own world.

Until next time Slán Go Fóill (goodbye for now)
