Introduction to: where Love Remains
There are days when the world looks bright and familiar, yet something feels quietly out of reach – as if a light we know well has slipped just beyond our sight. This poem began with that feeling: walking the country lanes I have known all my life, seeing all the same sights and sounds, yet carrying a sense of something missing.
I walked seeking what I thought I had left behind, until I learned to look closer – not just upward, or far away, but in the stream that catches the sun, in the wind that moves the grass, and most of all, in the small gentle acts of care that pass between people every day.
It is not written to guide or preach, but simply to share a journey of discovery: That presence is not something far off, but something that lives whereever love remains. One verse from scripture comes to mind, it may not be perfectly exact, but it carries a message. “Who ever lives in Love, Lives in God and God With Him.”

Where Love Remains
I walk the lanes I always know -
cattle call where clover grows,
dogs bark sharp at farmyard gates,
strangers smile and tip their hats.
The sun is warm, the air is sweet,
dust dances lightly beneath my feet -
yet something quiet seems withdrawn,
as though one familiar light had gone.
I thought I'd left you far behind,
in days long passed and roads now found;
I wandered on through field and fern,
seeking where a heart might turn.
I watched the gaoth bend grass and gorse,
and wondered where your presence was,
until I reached the hill's high crest
and looked across the land at rest -
and saw you in the shining stream,
a silver thread beneath the sun;
in every sparkle, splash, and flow,
your quiet light in waters shown.
But more than light on water's face,
I found you in a hidden place:
where hands help hands,
where hearts attend,
where one soul simply meets a friend.
A cup carried out to a neighbour's door,
a word that makes a burden less -
this is grá,
this is your mark,
alive within each gentle act.
And deep within,
both quiet and sure,
settles síocháin -
steady, pure;
the peace no world can ever bestow,
that only love like yours can know.
You are not gone.
You are not far.
You are the light
within all things;
not only heaven,
not only sky,
but every kindness passing by.
And so I walk,
and now I know:
where love remains,
there you are also.
In every lane,
in every soul,
you are the ground
beneath my feet.
