Reckless Intent

Introduction:

In sitting to compose todays poem over the past few days I found myself changing how the poem was structured. How ever so slightly it has been changed or altered, “It has been changed, all the same” as we would say here in Ireland.

Usually I tried to keep my poetry strictly to 10 syllables per line OR as close as possible. But in order to keep the flow of the poem going as it were, I went along with such slight change.

Also In this poem I began with one intent, which had changed as it was completed to the point that this poem takes a love on a journey from telling of his or her love who was always true and who was always one to aid and protect. Yet foolish wandering lost his or her way and the love with it. Ending with a begging for forgiveness and eager to serve in any way to repay.

This is a poem that has me curious how readers will take this poem! Also curious if readers notice any changes or how they feel on such? These questions are for my own education and how I have always placed my poetry in composing etc.

About The Poem:

Todays poem is simply a Love poem with a little difference. I hope folks enjoy this part and I hope that the journey it takes the reader proves to have the effect I hope for.

Often in life we find ourselves feeling comfort and safety in one way of life and love. Then in straying away from that safe zone as it were we lose sight of our love and stray wide and often wildy. Thus the result we lose that love and in the end when all hits the fan as it were, we crawl back home. Begging for forgiveness.. BUT does the love forgive OR should they?

That is for the reader to discover or decide for themsleves. How would yolu decide in such a case? Do let me know either way, my curious mind is eager to know how a reader takes such a case.

With changes slight in structure to keep with the flow of the poem I hope that it is enjoyed.

Having said all of this, Please enjoy this Poem:

Reckless Intent

You who guide me through the darkest of nights,
As troubles mount and reach towering heights.
Counting the cost, feeling lost without,
You who aid me through, in delight or doubt.

You who kept me warm when cold winds did blow,
And shielded me when feeling depths of woe,
Deserving more than I could ever give,
Through all my faults and flaws, you forgive.

Ever eager to relive or wander far,
I abandoned your love beneath the last star.
In unwelcomed lands, I wandered wide,
Where no one dared to offer love or guide.

Unconcerned and eager, I chased the wild,
Like a lost child, I wandered, often smiled.
Lost in tribes of lust, burdened beyond repair,
Until I stood alone, without a prayer.

Returning home broken, in dire need,
I beg forgiveness, this old foolish seed.
To serve as slave, yearning to repay,
For reckless intent, I lost your love's sway.

  1. I enjoyed reading your poem today and see that you seek feedback. You’ve given yourself quite a challenge here. I was delighted to see that you allowed yourself a slight change from rigid poetic structure in writing this. I see both love and poetry as synonymous with freedom though we may choose to stay within rigid structures. All best wishes
