Taking a break from the warm summer days, I enjoy traking walks along a route I spoke of and wrote on a number of times. It is an area rooted in history and now makes way as scenery back drop for recreational activites. Where History and nature combine hidden under a green canopy of overgrowth and trees.
In short that is what todays poem is about, a route of which I walk, now penned as it were in poetry. As I have spoken in previous posts this is an area that combines both history and nature reclaiming ruins from the handprints of mankind and the colonial masters of rulers who used to roam this land.
Though we irish are proud to be free of one colonial master and I consider the EU to be the present day colonial masters who one day will see the same fate. Thus the poem today does NOT take in politrical views of this poet, But the side notes here helps provide a moments though. What is left behind in ruins will be reclaimed by nature as will be done throughout eternity.
Having said that, Please Enjoy this Poem:

Oasis of History When the roses are standing in full bloom, And their scent fill the air to lift the gloom. Sometimes appear to hang about this place, But nothing left again to stay the pace. Pathways lined with the colour of flowers, Spending hours walking through in all showers. Where a green canopy shelters me there, As nothing will scare from a hidden lair. Beneath the canopy ruins lay hidden, Remains of colonial days hid in. Days such belong in history some did, A capsule to days of old now lay hid. The river passes it’s route to the sea, The path now worn through history yet free. The Heron stands in silence near but far, To catch it’s feast the sole goal and co-star. Ne’er easy to see when walking about, Beauty covers a naked land no doubt. Where history lays covered in plain sight, Taking silent flight losing day and night. © Pat Fitzgerald 2023

Thank you very much, It is what I hope to achieve as often as I can when writing. It helped this time because that ruin in the photograph is less than a klm walk from the ruin I mentioned in the poem.
