Over the past few days thoughts about those who are Lonely and feel Lonely has been running as it were through my mind. Thus I believed it correct to compose a little Poem to dedicate to them. But more so to try and highlight what is often a very lost and unseen road in life. I am certain everyone knows of oone or has one in mind that would fit this little term. BUT how many take a little time from your day to give a few moments of your day to check on them?
About The Poem:
This poem tries to highlight or display in words what Loneliness may be like. In recent months I had the pleasure in visiting one old man, who was More Lonely than I had ever seen anyone. To some he was the man who once taught them how to drive. To others he was the father of X, Y and Z, yet to others again he was married to A for as long as they could have known.
Loneliness is NOT a disease NOR is it an illness thjat could be cured with a course of antibiotics! But it is a failure of society, it is a failure of Family, friends and neighbours. We neglect such as these people because of our busy days or weeks and never nave time to think about them. The Failure is OURS!
This Old man I have known my entire life, as a child I looked up to him, But as teenage years arrived I never had time nor cared. For this Old man is my Dad! I live pretty much an hour’s drive away, but never made time to visit as he grew older. The items described within this poem is not of his reality, BUT It could be true in YOUR case.
My days and weeks have been ever so busy, but never had time enough to spend a few moments in conversation with him. Most of that failure has been at my own door and remains mine to hold to. Yet I left it to family to care for him and visit him. But Does it ever cure Loneliness? A Visit, a convertation with this person can help ease that.
I still recall walking about a house I once called home and where the walls once vibrated with life. Now it holds the silent secret moments of one old man. I have spent months now visiting once a week, to spend washing, cleaning and taking on Hours of drives throughout the country side. It has been more than an eye opener, but it also has been an education. It has also rebuilt a relationship and opened deep respect for him and anyone who Climbs that mountain of Loneliness.
For his wife, (my mother) passed away at age 52, since that day he has woken up alone and went about his day, often not alone but still alone. This Poem is NOT Dedicated or written because of him! BUT it has been written and composed over such a long time, with his plight and that of many others. It is for those who climb that mountain of Loneliness. Their strength to keep going despite how they feel, has inspired me.
Do Take a Little time to Visit one you know are Alone or Lonely. For myself I do not expect a patt on the back nor do I expect “well done ” messages etc. For I have found respect for Lonely and the Tales and stories of the elderly. This gives me food for thought and provides for me history where it matters! From the mouuths of those about us every day.
Having said all of this: Please Enjoy This Poem:.

Song of The Lonely
In the solitude of the winter sun,
Yet another day just begun.
Where the mountains of loneliness grow,
Greater than his desire to e’er know.
At the table he sits in thought,
But this silence echo’s a lot.
Like all within this little home,
And travelled it seemed, from there to Rome.
For yet, at the world outside he stares,
As people pass by, with all their cares.
The sound of the spoon against the mug,
Grew louder to him, but ne’er could unplug.
For this melody goes on again,
The song of loneliness remain.
A story he ne’er will tell a soul,
For this busy world will still roll.
Alone he wanders about his day,
No one to Love or walk away.
E’er on this lonely climb he stays,
By the maze of busy days he strays.

ENDING THOUGHTS:
Thank you for following me on my little journey, that is composing or writing poetry. If Life is a journey which we all walk on and my journey in creating Poetry is a journey of it’s own. Which I still learn much on as I write.
At times I experiment on methods or way how I can improve my poetry, therefore getting feedback is always most welcome for such as these.
When I write poetry, some readers may be offended with something within the poetry. I do not write to offend, But such are written for reasons I outline in the posts. Often I miss typos and mistakes when publishing each poem. BUT I correct the moment I discover such mistakes.

Poetry is a learning curve where I always work to improve. A lot of work goes into editing and reediting and then repeating that process on a number of occasions until I am happy with the result. This is how I operate in creating posts to share here.

It is a poignant and beautiful poem. The way we live our lives in modern times pushes some people into loneliness. I’ve read about the loneliness epidemic.

Thank you. In a fast paced world many are pushed aside and become outcast, thus they are left alone and loneliness sets in.

Loved the poem and the message! Bravo, Pat, Bravo!!
I have contemplated this issue myself over the years. There isn’t anything wrong with being/living alone. My Step-mom was extremely happy and in love with my Dad every day they were married and after he passed she has continued to affirm that she isn’t lonely and likes to live alone. She has a wide circle of friends and children that she shares time and life with so she never is lonely.
On the other hand, how many people are married and feel desparately lonely – with someone they live with but who is no longer connected to them.

Exactly!! Everything that you said, is very true and it is those who remain behind still in their own lives and yet that loneliness often creeps in.. It often takes just a little conversation at the right time. A Little biy helps a lot at times.

Yes, you are so right about that. Once we get a little older it is easier for us to see things in a bit of a different light!
