The North Wind

Introduction:

Over the past few days I have been stuck as it were in a cycle of thoughts that usually results in poetry being turned out. Yet as many times before this is the case. As the Title will tell, This is a poem about that Cold North Wind, That very cold biting wind that almost cuts through one as they go on their busy ways.

This had me captured in simple questions which I tried to hide away within the lines as seen in the poem below. Simple questions like Does one blame Global Warming for something that is a cycle of Mother Natures ways? Or does one take to heart all that they read and hear from those who have a lot more to gain and lose with a trend or story? Or does one forsake their own thoughts for that of others?

But hidden within the lines are those kind of questions, yet I try to improve such thoughts that I set within my poetry. Which is why It now takes me a couple of days to complete a poem like this. As always I like to think that readers can move between the lines and words to find such thoughts, NOT for GUIDANCE But as a means of thoughts.

It becomes a little more difficult for writers to move in on some topics for fear of one hit or another. For example the Irish Government striving to introduce Hate Speech laws that can only be described as Intrusive to the highest order and could see people being raided, have PC’s etc taken and used to bring before courts, All for speech and Opinion.

Therefore my poetry strikes for readers to find for themselves that which lays within lines , not for what I as a poet will state But for a light on areas. BUT also admiration for the art that can lay within Words when usued in some manner.

About The Poem:

For myself to write more that has not already been writen may bring results that may differ in the end than what was intended. But I tried to give the feel and force of such a cold North wind. Yet for one who lives on an Island Nation which I love with all my being, Hates the Cold Winds, Yet love the opposite which is the warmth of one sitting in comfort within a shelter watching out on Natures force striking outside.

This is the kind of feel I hope people find when reading the poem. There are times when walking in such cold winds I shake to thge extent that the keys I carry on my being shake with me. This is a vision I tried to add to this poem. To give that vision of the cold winds giving that discomfort to you.

Also I pose a few questions, that some readers may have their own variety of answers which either may be on one side or another on such question. It is providing the throughts for the reader to seek to ask themselves, rather than promote one view. This is what One should find within this poem.

Having said all of this, Please Try To Enjoy This Poem:

The North Wind

A cold wind blows and loudly sings it’s song,
Wait thus bold at heart but who sings along.
Biting to the bone we shiver and shake,
Fighting for a break ne’er make this mistake.

Who sings the song of this old cold North wind,
And last yet until the end, an old friend?
Or admire, with ease it cuts through the trees,
All but shake to the knees like keys with ease.

Would the temple of the wind grow silent,
To ask defiant why winds feel violent.
Means of self heating expose desire still,
Pace picks up until warmth fills the cold grill.

Or Has the forked cloud begun to strike now?
Or A Myth raise it’s head instead, but How?
Did the ghost of Global warming pass by?
For Nature’s cycle still turns to supply!

Who e’er digs for oceans in Golden sands,
And still demands support their plans and stands?
Mother’s cycle turns slow to warmer days,
The winds that blow strong yet cold, are her ways!

  1. Wow, Pat!! Really loved your poem “The North Wind”! Your Preface was so great! So much to think about and consider and prompt “Pondering” (oh, that’s a great title for a poem or your Opening thoughts and comments ahead of your poems!! No copyrights for titles! Ha!)

There is always something hiding “In Between The Lines”!!

Loved the photo for this piece. Your “The North Wind” provided a great seed of inspiration for a poem by me!! Thanks so much. Will send it to you!

    1. Thank you for such a comment. I was delighted with how this poem had come together and believed tthat it lays amongst my better ones. So reading such comments from folks confirms my own feeling on it. Sometimes a poem comes together just right, especially when I slowed down and not give in to rushing a piece out.. I do look forward to poetry form others that may or may not be inspired by this one..

      1. Oh, I forgot to mention something on editing and typos. I have found that the best way for me to deal with these issues is to read it out loud
after I have edited it 3 times. I find that really pops out anything that needs to be dealt with. The North Wind is a really great poem, Pat!!

      2. Thank you Chuck, One of my great faults is I grow rush things especially when I know I am near the end of a piece and just rush. Which all too often brings mistakes. Same goes for my typing. So my lesson is to slow down and take a little extra time.. Also that extra reading the post will help.. Thank you my friend.

  2. Thank you for expressing your mind and heart through this poem. Love of Freedom is Love of Life, of God. Adversities like the bitingly cold North Wind challenge us to bring out the best in ourselves and to express it naturally. Climate change, in my view, is both man made through product consumption creating pollutions as well as ongoing weather control experimentation largely denied in the past as well as natural, cyclical processes of our planet. A multi-layered problem for us to cope with and adapt to changes in our ways of Life globally. As for your title, it reminds me of a metal sculpture I once made which I called The North Wind. 🌬️🥶💙😂🕊️Shelley 🤗💕✨💐

    1. Yes, Climate change has a lot of mankind in it.. But all too much has been captured as it were by those who seek to gain for their own needs. Panic is a great tool for control. Weather experimenting is one such issue that needs ending but one voice does not change much.
