The Land That Keeps Me

As one who will never hide away from the fact that I am a Country boy, although I have lived on the surburbs of a City (which I do not like) and I yearn for a day when I both lay down and rise in the morning beneath a country side sky , instead of a city skyline that hides the natural beauty that both breathes and flows about us. With dreams of travel to a variety of locations, I shall always be where my heart is and that Will eternally be this land that I call home.

I shall forever be in this land as much as this land is within me, such is the love I have for the natural beauty that I find each day when out on a walk. Having said this, It has been on my heart to compose a Poem that would stand the test of time that calls out where one would forever more find me.

One would never find me (although I reside in a city that I do not like) where The Roads and laneways combine almost pointing or leading to where one would find beauty. One would find me in this most beautiful country side.

I have always been in wonder of the beauty that surrounds us, from the tiniest creature to the fiercest animal on earth to the farmlands that become a breeding ground for life of all kinds. Yet I as one who has been called “a dreamer” and many more not so colorful names, I a dreamer who for many years wrote poetry in secret and destroyed as fast as creating, so it woiuld never found. I a dreamer, ended up composing Poetry hidden away in a corner of this internet, Would in itself, find myself and now with pride say, “I a dreamer am a Poet“.

I have been on a road of finding where I stand in poetry, I learned a lot and then some, I have moved from one style to another to still find where I am. Yet this brings me to where I am today. Seated here typing a message that would be the lead into intruducing another of my poetry. I could say how much I love this poem, BUT What I feel on this poem is not for me to say at this point. Except to say that This Poem is a dedication to a Land where I call home.

About The Poem:

Written with Aa Bb rhyming in mind with aliteration set in each stanza, Or such has been my guide for that last number of poems. I wish for poetry at time to flow as if guided by music or conducted by nature itself.

Within the opening lines of this Poem I use the word “Boreen” Which I shall work on explaining as best as possible. A Boreen = a little road or as google explains it below.

A boreen or bohereen (/bɔːˈriːn/ bor-EEN; Irish: bóithrín [ˈbˠoː(h)ɾʲiːnʲ, bˠoː(h)ˈɾʲiːnʲ], meaning ‘a little road‘) is a country lane, or narrow, frequently unpaved, rural road in Ireland

I would translate it as a Country road that mequals in size and many times less than the average Pavement or walkway or Footpath, where ever it is called in your area. On many occasions Little or nothing drives on this road except for those who know it locally or is a local link way to a neighbouring village or town. Many joke baout roads in Ireland with grass growing in the centre. This would be because it is most often the highest part of the roadand it is most often no wider that one single vehicle.

Many words have been changed for Rhyming reasons or for flow or feel of the Poem. Other words have been replaced for words that appear to be poetic or have a history of Poetic use.

Also use of “Rainways” was purely for Poetic reasons that fit perfectly into that line and stanza. Then “townlit trails” again these words fit perfectly for flow and aliteration reasons. BUT neither word takles from what this poem states. Thisis what I have discoveredin composing Poetry, I could replace words to fit certain reasons and not lose the flow of the poem or what that poem was saying.

IN finsihing This Poem states my love for the countryside, But also Nature which is filled with such wonder and beauty. Yet most important of all, It is a Poem about my love for this land that is “The Land That Keeps Me”.

IN finishing This poem is dedicated to A dedication to the Natural beauty of my Homeland.

Having said all of this: Please Enjoy This Poem:

Once more I have stuck with AI to provide a suitable Image to go along with this Post, especially after many rejected Pictures. So any usual credit etc for copyrite etc goes where it should go. Not the best picture for this Poem But I believe it works for the Topic of the Poem.

A dedication to the Natural beauty of my Homeland

The Land That Keeps Me

Of all the roads and rural rainways,
Carry me to calm, green boreens to gaze.
Not to cities, cold and sparkling bright,
Nor townlit trails that tempt at night.

For this land a lush, emerald delight,
Stirs my soul with silent light.
Nature's notes in every weave —
Find me firm, for I’ll not leave.

Where windswept woods in whispers speak,
And mossy mounds hold mystic streak,
Each hedgerow hums in humble tune,
Beneath the breath of a silver moon.

By brooks that babble through the glade,
And fern-filled fields where fawns have strayed,
The dusk draws down with dusky grace,
On hill and hearth — this holy place.

With skies that swell in sapphire hue,
And dawns that drip with diamond dew,
The lark lifts light with lilting song,
As time ticks tenderly along.

So plant me proud where peat fires burn,
Let roots run deep and never turn,
In this dear dale where dreams abide,
Forever found at nature’s side.
