The Old Man Waits

Todays poem has been inspired by a Song Written and sung by Toby keith “Don’t let The Old Man in”. A song that I believe to be about death and awaiting death that comes upon all. Thus todays poem is centered around the same, “death”.

For death is something that comes to all and as has been done before, Death is seen as “The Old Man”. In the poem I have below, The Old Man follows us waiting to claim his prize, our living being as it were. For death seems to be merely seconds away at the best of times, for a freak accident could claim a life or any form of accident for that matter.

Thus The Old Man walks behind us waiting to stake his claim. My poem is an inspiration that has arisen from this song and does not reflect my actual beliefs. But creative thinking has brought this interesting concept to being for this poem.

Having said this little piece, Please Enjoy this Poem:

The Old Man Waits

The Old Man walks steps behind,
He doesn’t care for the grind,
And follows sands of time,
Until the last dime.

Silent as a thief in the night,
He wanders closer ‘ere so quiet,
Waiting for you,
With no queue to view.

The Old Man comes behind,
No bribe can cause to rewind.
For life be but a shadow,
As times sands thus show.

Ripples in the waters of life,
 Flowing unaware in strife,
Until it fades.
The Old Man sits in shades.

The Old Man waits to claim,
Then the memory of one name,
Remains alone and lost,
Death becomes the cost.

The Old Man waits for all,
Shaking roots until his call,
He comes with your last breath,
For thus his name is death.
