The Night Song

Over the past week, Life itself took a front seat as it were and resulted in no post or poetry being composed or published here. From attending a funeral for a childhood friend’s parent, to resting a painful back issue, thus ending with a day out with the family.

But today I return to play catch up and my first task is to Publish today’s Poem.I have been in tought about my hearing loss and any effects it would have or differences caused. This in itself brought me to compose this poem, Simply put it is a poem that captures all the movements and possible sounds of the night and places it into one poem.

Thus “The Night Song” which is a poem that catches everything that one may hear in a night and place it in what possible song it would be. For some IT Coould be a Silent Song whilst for others It could be filled with an entire ensemble. That part is up to the reader, But I am interested in hearing what folks hear as to music or just a variety of sounds or silence? It is still “The Night Song ” and all can hear it, even those of us who have hearing Loss.

Having said all of this, Please Enjoy This Poem:

The Night Song

The night sky displayed celestial duty,
As the moon brightened to show it’s beauty.
Stars appeared to dance as they sparkled bright,
A slight breeze blew through silence being just right.

The waves crash onto shore with their own song,
Here the sound of the night could sing along.
By the Old Head winds carry to all ears,
Where life appears to run through all the fears.

Above the moon and stars light the night sky,
To guide travellers on their way from high.
Along the beaches the tides join the song,
Lone people sit and enjoy thus belong.

High o’er the cliff tops a silent figure,
Flies by seeking food where plans get bigger.
A mouse scurries for shelter but too late,
A death squeak yet becomes what was it’s fate.

Sit in silence in the still of the night,
The night song surrounds you without a fight.
Deaf ears admire the song but ne’er a sound,
From Dusk ‘till dawn the night song is yet found.

    1. Thank You Folks, There are a couple of Things I had in mind to state. BUT first off I neglected or forgot to add in my post that as written in the 2nd stanza “The Old Head” This refers to “The Old Head of Kinsale” Wich is on the southern coast of ireland and possibly the starting point Or close to the starting point for The Wild Atlantic Way which takes visitors along the coast line up the west coast until it reaches Northern Ireland.

Having read the comments here I must admit that to me having grown up as a fan of Soft rock & Metal Music especially a fan of guatarists and their art. Thus to me when I sit to hear the Night Song I imagine a Guitar Solo that ranges from the soft almost silent parts to the wilder more active elements.. But as others have said I could imagine what they say also… This comes from one who has a hearing disability, thus some sound for me has to me imagination or from others.

Thank You to all for your comments here.

  1. It is a beautiful poem. I love the night sky and ocean waves in the night. As for what I imagine hearing while reading, the first verse, Beethoven’s moonlight sonata, second verse waves crashing onto the shore, then moonlight sonata again.
